Case Studies
Case Study 1
A recent project undertaken for a local authority for several new play areas
and upgrades shows how our truly impartial advice and experience can be passed
onto our clients.
A brief outline of what was carried out and our involvement can be seen below:
- Stage
1 – Consultancy
We
were involved
in several meetings with both the client and local residents both in
offices and on site to help decide upon location, play equipment and
ancillary equipment that would meet the resident’s requirements
and the client’s
budget.
- Stage 2 – Site Survey
An experienced member of our team then set about carrying out the site surveys for each location. This included all measurements, ground conditions, access points and digital photographs that would then be used later in the final designs.
- Stage 3 – Drawings & Design
The information from the site surveys and the consultations was then transferred into full colour design drawings including digital photographs by one of our experienced draughtsmen. These design drawings then underwent final approval from the client and any changes that were highlighted at this stage were made.
- Stage 4 – Tenders
A formal tender document was then drawn up and sent out with the design drawings to prospective contractors on behalf of the client.
Stage 5 – Installation
Once our client has received the tenders and awarded the installation contracts to the winning contractor, we then acted as ‘Clerks of Works’. Our dedicated Contracts Manager then liaised between the client, suppliers of equipment and the contractors to ensure that the installation was carried out in a smooth and efficient manner.
- Stage 6 – Post Installation Inspection
An experienced member of our inspection team then carried out a full post installation inspection in line with the current standards and submitted to the client for examination. Any faults found at this stage were then immediately raised with the contractors so that they could be corrected before the play area opening to the public.
Case Study 2 (completion 2008)
Our brief was to create a play area within the rear gardens of a home for
children with special needs run by a local authority.
Our design included the following items:-
- basket or ‘pod’ swing for multi users
- special wheelchair swing for wheelchair users
roundabout for the all users including wheelchairs- sandpit with a retractable cover for sensory play by all
- trampoline set into the ground to aid easy access to the item doing away with the usual access steps
In addition a sensory lighting scheme was installed highlighting the garden and equipment in different colours.
Case Study 3 (completion 2009)
This park was a run down play area on a local housing estate which was extensively refurbished using equipment from several suppliers which in our independent opinion offered the best play value as well as durability.

Case Study 4 (completion 2008)
An independent day school for boys 4 to 13 years requested that an existing grass area be turned into a fun play area to help develop the children’s agility and strength.
This was achieved by using a contemporary range of activity trail equipment and climbing wall.
